In need of a new computer, and having a couple of enterprise licenses for Windows laying around, I bought the new Lenovo Z13 (AMD AND USB4/Thunderbolt 3/4 support!) without an operating system.
It arrived earlier today, and I’ve spent a couple of hours trying to get everything setup – but a problem occured. Any way I tried, Windows 11 just wouldn’t install and I kept getting a blue (black) screen of death after the first part of the installation:
From what I could read, this seems to be a driver issue and is most likely caused by an old or faulty driver for one of the components. In the end, the solution ended up being simple:
- Go into the BIOS (F1 or Enter and then F1 on boot) and click “Security” and “I/O Port Access”
- Disable everything but the USB ports
- Install Windows 11, then reboot a couple of times and enable one item each time. Once you’ve found the faulty driver/hardware, go to https://support.lenovo.com and get the driver for the device in question installed
- Reboot the laptop and enable the device again
This worked for me at least.
